AVG Cleaner App Reviews

The disk cleanup feature works nicely; hasn’t caused any major problems that I can see and freed up 2+ gig of my hard drive. The duplicate checker could use some work, however. It seems to check for file names only; in my case, it picked up files with the same name (but different created/last modified dates and times) that existed in different folders because they were linked to different items. (I am a gamer and use lots of mods and DLC, so I’m very careful about deleting files that relate to my games). I recommend using this with caution and checking every file to be sure it actually is a duplicate. Additionally, the registration/sign-in process seems to be broken - I can’t register the app with AVG (doesn’t show up in my account) and can’t login to my AVG account from the app. However, it’s free, so I really can’t complain too much. If the issues I mentioned above were dealt with, I’d have no problem giving it a 5-star rating.

I ran the disk cleaner and the duplicate detector once each. Each took under a half hour and cleared out over 40GB of junk (90GB free between them). I haven’t noticed any negative performance issues since I ran them. All indicators say that this is a very good program.

I would give it more stars if I could. AVG changed my Yosemite from a sloth to a cheetah in just a manner of minutes.

I was skeptical at first since it was free, like what could it possibly do. But after seing the results and the faster speed of my computer I would have paid for it. I had alot of files in my trash that would have taken weeks to delete. This app deleted everything in my trash in a few seconds. Highly recommended.

It’s an ok utility, does what it says, but the more recent updates want you to create an AVG account and jump through other stupid hoops. Seriously, what’s next, wanting me to log in with Facebook so AVG can post updates to my account and let everyone know that I just deleted my temp files and trash bin?

It recovered over 3GB of spaced mostly occupied by caches, plus useless log files, and other miscellany. It shows a summary of all file types, which you can drill down into to see the individual files. You can delete some or all. It is fast in locating files and fast in deleting them. They do not go into the trash can, they are vaporized. And it is free. What’s not to like? Thank you AVG.

This is the best app for cleaning memory and gaining more space in the hard drive. It scans very fast and brings hidden files and folders that are not in use anymore. This could be a very helpful app for everyone who want to have their systems clean and fast. This is highly recommended.

After using CleanMyMac 2 for a while, I didn’t want to pay to upgrade to CleanMyMac 3. I love that I finally found a free alternative!

As a long time user of CleanMyMac 2, I finally got fed up with the program causing some of my icons to disappear. Not sure if it was some sort of cache file getting deleted, but it required me to reboot my MBP a few times to get things back in order. Totally unacceptable to me, since CleanMyMac 2 periodically nags you to run it. Anyway, I saw Disk Doctor for $2.99 and some of the reviewers complained how that program nags you to share your experience on Facebook/Twitter and I wanted no part of that. So, I decided to give AVG Cleaner a try. While the program is free, one of the first things you are asked to do is to create an “AVG MyAccount” or enter an “Invitation Code”. Whaaaat?! Why do I have to have a login password for a disk utility program? I mean, how many passwords do they expect me to remember? I was considering uninstalling this program, because of the AVG account, but you can skip it. On my 500GB SSD, AVG Cleaner took less than 10 seconds to display over 41GB of junk to delete (39GB in Trashcan). I guess I’ll try this for awhile, but it gets three stars for the AVG account screen.

My computer was so loaded with junk I literally could not open any of the apps on it. I then heard about this program online. So I installed it, launched it, created an account, scanned my computer, found a whole bunch of junk and deleted it… all in fifteen minutes. This app is so simple and effortlessly scans every file in existence on your mac. I easily deleted ten gigabytes of pure junk, cache, and duplicated files, and now I don’t even have to wait to open multiple apps at the same time. It’s also 100% free! Download this app now if you want an effective debugging app on you computer. It does all the work for you. Pros: TONS of deleted files I didn’t need, minimum storage and time use, reliable, quick and easy, free! Cons: Asks you to create an account for the app before launching it (but it does it straight from the app, no browser opening required, just enter your email, make a password, boom), it’s 100% free to both search for and delete duplicate files you don’t need and to clean your computer disk for useless files that are just taking up space, but if you want to scan your computer for malware, install anti-viruses, and delete spyware, you need to buy the full version online for $60. However, I only really needed to use the free version. But I’m thinking of getting full version because it’s worth it… I check every once in a while on my Mac via scan, and there’s almost always something extra I don’t need. This is the app for you.

As far as I can say, it cleaned up my mac and make me a happy customer. I wish if this could work on the whole mac instead of just your home directory.

Although I’m sorely disappointed with AVG Antivirus for Mac (not on App Store, maybe for a good reason), I actually am quite impressed with AVG Cleaner. I didn’t expect much, but I pressed the “Scan Mac” button just to see what it would do. To my utter surprise, it scanned very fast (just a few seconds) and found about 16 gb of stuff to delete. I looked through the entire list first before I agreed to delete anything. I was really surprised with all the files it found to delete - places I never would’ve thought to look. Maybe 16 gb doesn’t seem like a lot, but on a 2011 Macbook Air every bit of space counts. Because I was so happy with the results, I ran the duplicate finder also and was equally impressed that every single duplicate picture it found was indeed a duplicate (I looked at every single one before I deleted anything). Now I feel I can trust this program, so next time I won’t check every single file and it will go a lot faster. I previously used Omnidisk Sweeper to list files in order from largest to smallest, so I could delete some larger files to free up space… but this app is much easier, faster, and prettier to look at. P.S. I skipped the account setup (mentioned by another reviewer). It’s optional; you can click “not now” or something like that. Didn’t bother me at all that that app tries to set up an account. Just say no.

Very nice application. It quickly detected any junk that were on my computer and easily detecte my duplicate files and removed only the files that I wanted to remove. Overall very nice app, really quick, easy and convenient

I just downloaded this app, and tried it. One reviewer said that they looked at the files selected to be cleaned, well, so did I. It gives an explanation of the files it is deleting. I was comfortable with that, so I hit delete. Voila, I earned lots of disk space. Great app! TY to the developers of this app!!

Downloaded on my MacBook Air and started running this App, and I gained over 3GB of space!! It couldn’t have been easier, thank you! :-)

I kept getting a message saying that I needed to delete some disc space on my startup file and I just downloaded this and I’m completely in love with this app! Thank you so much for a no hassle app. It was simple and fast and I cleaned up so much space on my computer. I wish I could go deeper and delete some more, but I’m highly satisfied with how much I cleaned up today. The best app I downloaded onto my Mac since I’ve gotten it.

This app is great. Other apps just show you what take sup space but doesnt delete it. This does both. Scan was quick and now i have 91 GB free on my Mac Air. No need to buy a hard drive because of this app! Should definitely buy it. All it deletes is caches an unneeded items. Doesnt delete any important files or anything! Definitely check it out!!!
